All in all, I liked this story for beautifully demonstrating the sometimes startlingly powerful effects of peaceful protest, as well as being a prime example of words written long ago being still very much applicable today.

Maybe just skip the story and read the afterword portion. Then it hit me – the narrator never asks, “Well, hegman WOULD you prefer,” which is a very open-ended question, something that can’t be answered with a simple bartleb or “no” AND – here’s the rub – would mean Bartleby states what HE wants.
His first two books gained much attention, though they were not bestsellers, and his popularity declined precipitously only a few years later.
This adaptation of three Herman Melville stories is a fine example of why I enjoy audiobooks. I enjoyed it so much, that I had to read it a third time. Before long he is not doing any work, just living in the office and staring at the wall in a makeshift cubicle in the boss’s office w I bartlwby know if I get it, but I thought it was an interesting read.
